Makeup Products to Start 2018 Right (by looking back at 2017’s hits and misses)

2017 was the year I really got into makeup. I discovered Anastasia Beverly Hills, Makeup Forever and and so many other products and techniques that I now use religiously! Over my year of obsessing over makeup, I collected knowledge and (unfortunately for my bank account) a VIB rouge status. Here are some of the products (in no particular order) that I’m most excited about starting 2018 with!

I have a confession to make…I never bought the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely sparked my interest but at over $80 CDN for a lot of colours I already owned, I couldn’t justify it. This one on the other hand, I saw in store and fell in love. The oranges and reds are similar enough to some of my other palettes but the purples and the shimmers really drew me in. This palette seemed fresh and with the VIB sale I just couldn’t resist! I’m so excited to start playing with colour this year! This palette (and fairly the Rose Gold as well), seem like perfect palettes for Indian/Pakistani traditional bridal makeup. If you don’t have any idea of what that would look like here’s some examples I found on Pinterest:

After “Modern Renaissance”, I’ve become a changed woman.  The buttery shades and beautiful glitters had me SHOOK. I’m just hoping this Prism palette can live up to my expectations! I tried the subculture palette and while I didn’t hate it (theres not THAT much fallout!), I was left underwhelmed. The colours in this palette call for me even more, lure, eden, and pyramid have me hyped!

Huda Beauty Electric Obsessions

As I mentioned earlier, I really want to start incorporating more colour in my looks for 2018 and this seemed like the perfect palette to start. Okay I’m lying, I also own the Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette BUT a lot of the shades there are pretty chalky and unpigmented. Huda Beauty palettes are notoriously pigmented, buttery, and all kinds of perfect so I have high hopes!

My skin was finally too light for my NARS foundation in the dead of winter (and everyone could tell) so I bought this one on the recommendation of a sales associate. After reading raving reviews of how well it photographs, I’m excited to no longer look like a glowing ghost in all my pictures!

2017 was the year I learned how great makeup brushes can make such a difference in your makeup. I fell in love with an oval brush for flawless foundation and giant fan brush perfect for contouring. These brushes aren’t essential to me since I actually have too many brushes now BUT look how pretty they are! I even got them on sale, now I’ll have a brush for foundation, contour, blush, highlight, and a brush that I’m really not sure how I’ll use. Its okay, it’ll be fun figuring it out! I’m getting into my 2018 makeup with the glammest brushes ever!

PS. Let me know in the comments if you’d be interested in a makeup brush post where I explain how I use all my makeup brushes.

This was another item from boxycharm (can you tell how much I love boxycharm?). Anyways, I haven’t had a chance to test it out for how long lasting it is but in the few times I have used it, my skin was glowy and I love the way the spray comes out of the bottle as a fine mist (although it is a harder press which is slightly annoying). Also, the packaging is EVERYTHING. You can’t really tell in the picture but the bottle reflects light so beautifully and is subtly embracing that 2017 rainbow everything trend. I can’t wait to find out what 2018 makeup trends look like!

Bonus: VIB Rouge (maybe?)

IMG_0541This was the first year I made “VIB Rouge”. I received this foundation brush (which is honestly incredibly underwhelming, leaves streaks and isn’t one I’d ever buy) along with the ability to have free shipping on all orders with no minimum purchase. I love the free shipping but I’m not sure this brush is enough of a perk for me to spend as much again. I may anyway since I love makeup and sephora seems to carry the best selection but lets see what happens.

Cheers to 2018, may it be our best makeup year yet!

Would you be interested in hearing more about any of these products? What are some makeup products you’re excited to get into in 2018?
